Reyna Tropical celebrate life and legacy in Los Angeles

Fabiola “Fabi” Reyna and DJ Nectali “Sumohair” Diaz, the duo who made up Reyna Tropical, were as close as two friends could be. “He married me, we were married,” Reyna exclaims from the stage, smiling broadly while paying respect to her beloved collaborator and “musical soulmate” Diaz, who died last year. The moment took place when Reyna Tropical put on a special show in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom, celebrating Diaz’s contributions to the group and to the inclusive, diverse community they cultivated.

Since forming in 2016, Reyna Tropical’s music has been described as a celebration of culture, identity, and the immigrant experience. Reyna has fought to continue that mission following Diaz’s tragic death, keeping the band’s legacy alive.

To commemorate Diaz’s life, the event turned into a vibrant, energetic, aggressive memorial. In addition to Reyna Tropical’s set, Fuck U Pay Us, DJ Sizzle (Cumbiaton), and DJ Zuri kept the vibes high. And when Reyna Tropical took the stage, they instantly launched into a high-energy performance — pledging to continue to honor Diaz’s memory through their music.

Not only was the night a beautiful celebration of a talented musician but also a beloved friend. Reyna Tropical’s unique sound, multicultural identity, and dedication to social justice continue to foster a dedicated and diverse fanbase, who will continue to support and celebrate their music. Here we captured the electric performance and event.
