‘Riverdale’ star Lili Reinhart calls out body shamers in message to fans
This week, the actress took to social media to remind fans that weight gain, especially during the ongoing pandemic, is nothing to be ashamed of.
2020 has been difficult for many of us. Due to the pandemic, the vast majority of the population were forced to change their everyday routines and reevaluate their day-to-day lives. For some, these changes led to an increase in stress, anxiety and, yes, even weight.
For Reinhart, she revealed to her 3.2 million Twitter followers that her body has faced some changes this year. Even though she has gained weight, she believes that the changes in her appearance don't need to be justified.
She goes on to share that individuals who put others down because of their appearances are insecure. Ultimately, Reinhart hopes that fans will find the inner confidence and love to appreciate the bodies they are in.
Filming for season 5 of Riverdale is currently underway. Back in September, showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa unveiled the title pages for the first four episodes of season 5. The pages hint at what’s to come in the highly-awaited season including how Archie‘s (KJ Apa) storyline may play out.
For those that don't know, season 5 will also include a seven-year time jump, taking the characters from their late teens to their mid ’20s. However, since season 4 ended early due to the pandemic, the first three episodes of season 5 will take place during the characters’ senior year.
Along with this, Reinhart is now a producer of the popular CW series. Due to the past criticism Riverdale has received from various actors, Reinhart wants to use her new position to bring more diversity to the show.
“I feel as a producer now moving forward how important it is that I’m not stereotyping, stereo casting anything,” she said. “Really making sure I’m going out of my way to do right by Black people, by transgender people, by people who don’t look like me.”
According to the show's set decorator Denise Nadredre, Riverdale's new season is set to arrive on Jan. 20, 2021. However, The CW has not officially confirmed the show's return yet.
