Model and actress Ruby Rose has deactivated her official Twitter account following backlash over her casting as DC Comics superhero Batwoman, aka Katherine Kane, in The CW‘s shared universe and media franchise the Arrowverse.

The move comes after Rose, who identifies as genderfluid, was announced by the network to play the Batman heiress and crime fighter, who’s written as being lesbian in modern DC comic books. It marks the first time an openly gay superhero would lead a series, as reported by BuzzFeed News.

But two days after the announcement, the Australian entertainer has hopped off Twitter. The online exit was seemingly precipitated by certain fans’ anger at Rose’s casting as Batwoman, with some even reportedly concluding that the actress wasn’t up to the task, per The Hollywood Reporter.

And while Rose has apparently kept her Instagram up and running—even responding to a few choice comments—the actress seemingly threw in the Twitter towel after too much hate from uninformed comic fans. In her last tweet, she confronted the detractors who spoke out against her casting.

“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from. Has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change. I wish we would all support each other and our journeys.”

Of course, many praised the casting choice as a smart move for both DC and The CW. Still, the criticism poked through. “This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community,” Rose countered.
