Rupert Grint just commented on that rumored 'Harry Potter' TV series

Last month, rumors emerged that a Harry Potter television series is reportedly in the works at HBO Max.

Now, Rupert Grint has opened up about just what he thinks of these rumors as well as revealing he’s only actually seen three Harry Potter films.

For ten years and eight movies, Rupert Grint played the incredibly stubborn yet lovable Ron Weasley. From The Sorcerer’s Stone all the way up to Deathly Hallows: Part 2, we watched Grint grow up alongside Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton as they faced dementors, Voldemort and awkward adolescence.

Now, Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to bring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter back to screens. Last month, Variety reported that Warner Bros. is working on a new TV show that will air on HBO Max.

However, no writers or talent are currently attached to the project. As well, there are no specific details regarding the series’ plot. Some theorize the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child may be adapted for this upcoming series.

Now, Grint has shared just what he thinks about the rumored new show. Although he expects to not be part of the new project, he believes the continuation of the franchise could be pretty odd to see.

“It’ll be weird if it was a continuation kind of thing,” he tells Variety. “I weirdly feel quite protective of that character. Even when I saw the stage shows, it was a very strange experience. … If it’s like a different group of friends, I guess it would be interesting.”

Back in December, Grint revealed the chances he would ever reprise his role as Ron Weasley for another film. Shortly after, he also opened up about the ongoing controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling.

In 2019, Daniel Radcliffe explained that he expects a Harry Potter reboot to happen at some point. However, it sounds like he has no plans to be part of it either.

“It will be interesting to see how long those films stay,” he told IGN. “It feels like there’s a sacredness around them at the moment, but that’ll go, the shine will wear off at some point. It’ll be interesting if they reboot them and just do the films again or do a series; I’m fascinated to watch.”

Elsewhere in the Variety interview, Grint also revealed he has only seen three of the Harry Potter films. As it turns out, he’s only seen the first three, stopping after The Prisoner of Azkaban.

“I’ve probably seen the first three at the premieres,” he says. “But after that, I stopped watching them.”

Although some Potterheads’ jaws may drop at Grint’s revelation, he will likely watch the movies for the first time with his daughter.

“But now that I have a daughter, I will probably have to watch them with her,” he said.

Grint and actress Georgia Groome welcomed their first child together back in May. Then, in November, Grint introduced his daughter to the world by joining Instagram. Of course, Tom Felton welcomed Grint to the social media platform in the most Draco way ever.

Along with Grint, Felton has also been sharing some surprise Harry Potter secrets. Last week, he revealed that his actual grandpa played a minor character in the first Harry Potter film. Felton has recently been rewatching the films as part of an Instagram Live series.
