Savage X Fenty celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community with Savage X Pride
The collection, released June 1, features 25 new pieces to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. The collection includes lacy bras, smoking jackets and crotchless panties for bodies and identities of all kinds.
“Pride is all about appreciating your authentic self,” Rihanna says to Elle. “I am very excited about this collection and showing love and support to the LGBTQIA+ community, which includes so many of our customers, team members and fans.”
The campaign is wonderfully dynamic. It features a wide range of models, all with different lived experiences and body types. The models share in the celebration of their authentic selves. The garments in the collection are vibrant and sexy, featuring rainbows and bright neon colors in contrast with black lace. The collection is extremely versatile, and it includes more casual pieces like a grey crop top and matching shorts alongside a garter belt embroidered with hearts and rainbows.
The collection also showcases a rainbow kitty whip with black gunmetal hardware and 100% polyester tail. Although the whip is small enough to fit in a handbag and has an easy-to-use wrist loop, it’s a novelty item and is not suitable for actual use, according to the website.
Many of the people who worked on the collection are also part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Photographer Quil Lemons, beauty artist Hector Espinal and 13 models all identify as part of the community and contributed to the campaign.
Goode called the experience a “dream” in a comment about the collection.
“I’ve been so lucky to have worked with Savage X Fenty twice now, and being able to be part of something for Pride was an absolute dream!” says Goode. “It’s really amazing to be in a space with other queer artists who all share a common creative goal. I’m excited to be putting out more of that artistic energy for this Pride season. If we can all come together and share the art we’ve been sitting on for the past year, that’s all I need!”
Goode previously worked with Savage X Fenty during the Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 2. The fashion show featured the Fall 2020 collection. Goode walked the runway with RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars season 5 winner Shea Couleé and RuPaul’s Drag Race season 12 winner Jaida Essence Hall.
Elíseo Equihua, another one of the Savage X Pride models, spoke with Elle about the experience.
“Honestly, what makes me feel boldly me is having a little bit of vanity,” says Equihua. “It’s kind of looked down upon and I feel like that’s sad because there’s nothing wrong with taking your appearance seriously. Being able to express me the way I feel like it and being able to use my brown body as a form of expression.”
Savage X Fenty is also investing in LGBTQIA+ charities. $250,000 from the sale of the Savage X Pride collection will help support organizations like GLAAD, the Audre Lorde Project, The Caribbean Equality Project, INC., Trans Latin@ Coalition and the Trans Wellness Center.
The collection is available in inclusive sizes. Bras are available in size 30A-42H and other garments are available from XS-3X.
