After it was revealed earlier this week that the original live-action Shaggy actor would not be returning to the Scooby-Doo franchise, fans rioted on social media.

Despite not returning to the cast for the forthcoming Scooby-Doo movie, Matthew Lillard seems to have a pretty positive outlook on the future. At the very least, he has a good sense of humor, in spite of it all.

“Need to say thank you for the outpouring of support from the Scoobyverse,” Lillard says in a tweet. “It was a humiliating moment... It will pass. That said, it was comforting to receive the love. Trying to figure out what’s next… Thank you.”

Since the first live-action film’s debut in 2002, Lillard has voiced Shaggy in almost every movie and cartoon.

However, instead of our beloved Lillard taking on the role, Will Forte will take his place in the upcoming installment.

Directed by Tony Cervone, the voice cast will also include Gina Rodriguez as Velma and Tracy Morgan as Captain Caveman. Frank Welker is set to reprise his role as Scooby-Doo.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The story sees the Mystery Inc. gang join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from Dick Dastardly and his evil plans…and this time, we are told, the threat is real.”

The upcoming Scooby-Doo movie is slated for release in May 2020.
