Doja Cat has won various awards this year for the viral single “Say So.” Along with grabbing the PUSH New Artist award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, she also took home the Best New Act award at the 2020 EMA. For the awards show, she performed her hit “Say So,” but gave the track an unexpected twist no one was expecting.

Doja Cat truly channeled the rock gods to bring her latest “Say So” rendition to life. Featuring heavy rock guitars and powerful vocals, the performance showed a new side to the singer as she wore a torn dress in a field of flowers. Although the original version of “Say So” features airy vocals, Doja Cat’s rock-inspired vocals for the EMA performance were unexpected but also showcased her range as an artist.

As well, horror movie fans may have noticed a nod incorporated into the “Say So” performance. At the very start, Doja Cat crawls out of a static-filled TV screen with her dark wet hair and torn white dress. The imagery is eerily, and likely coincidentally, similar to what is seen in The Ring.

As fans point out, she has shared various renditions of “Say So” over the past year.

Naturally, fans have a lot of thoughts and reactions to the latest rendition for the MTV EMA.

“Say So” still remains one of her most popular songs to date. Currently, the hit single has over 620 million streams on Spotify. However, her latest collab with Ariana Grande on “motive” is currently her most popular track on the streaming platform with 24 million streams.
