As if Taylor Swift didn’t treat fans enough in 2020 with her surprise album folklore, she is offering the first look into her upcoming re-recordings in an unexpected way.

For those that don’t know, Swift is currently re-recording her first five albums in order to gain the master rights. Scooter Braun, who previously obtained the master rights to Swift’s first six albums, recently sold them to Shamrock Capital for $300 million. Although Swift has been offered to re-obtain these master rights, she declined to do so as the deals would still benefit Braun.
As a result, Swift is now re-recording all of the songs on Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989. Due to her past contract with her former label Big Machine Records, these first five albums are the only LPs she can legally re-record at this time.

Now, it looks like Swift is finally giving fans the first look into what they can expect from the re-recordings. On Wednesday, Ryan Reynolds debuted a self-written Match.com advertisement that has Swift’s new recording of “Love Story” at its center.
The advertisement follows Satan who matches with a girl named 2020 on Match.com. Together, they hoard toilet paper, social distance at the gym and pose in front of a dumpster hellfire for a sweet selfie. The comical ad truly encompasses what many of us experienced in 2020.
Swift shares on Twitter that Reynolds asked if he could use a clip of the new “Love Story” in the Match ad. Although her new re-records are not finished, Swift decided it was the perfect opportunity to give fans a sneak peek of what they can expect.

So, how did Reynolds manage to land the Swift re-record for the advertisement? As it turns out, Swift, Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively are longtime friends. Their daughter James’ voice is even featured in the opening of “Gorgeous,” off of Swift’s 2017 album Reputation.
If Swift’s re-records arrive sometime in 2021, she may have as impressive of a year on Spotify as she did with the Grammy-nominated folklore. Swift was one of the many artists to dominate the streaming service this year. Not only was she the second-highest streamed female artist globally in 2020, just behind Billie Eilish, but she also appeared on numerous listeners’ Spotify Wrapped lists.

The snippet of Taylor Swift’s re-recorded version of ‘Love Story’ so perfectly updates the song without losing any of the magic.
It’s everything I want and need these re-recordings to be – new yet familiar. ❤️
