This week, Netflix offered a new look at the upcoming Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel. The new film is directed by Robert Rodriguez who directed 2005’s The Adventures Of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. The sequel is set within the same world as the original movie, but takes place many years into the future.
We Can Be Heroes follows a team of superheroes called The Heroics. Together, they need to be rescued by their super-power kids after being kidnapped. The Heroics includes actors Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater and Boyd Holbrook.
In the film, both Sharkboy and Lavagirl are parents to a daughter named Guppy, played by Bird Box‘s Vivien Lyra Blair. The sequel, which arrives on New Year’s Day, features the original film’s star Taylor Dooley who now plays an adult Lavagirl. However, her former co-star Taylor Lautner is missing from the sequel as JJ Dashnaw takes on the role of adult Sharkboy.

Naturally, a lot of Sharkboy and Lavagirl fans aren’t too happy that Taylor Lautner is missing from the new film. On Wednesday, the actor began trending on Twitter as fans shared their thoughts on the casting decision.
I’m sorry but Taylor Lautner will always be THE sharkboy and Netflix should’ve done everything possible to get him out of the cave where he’s hiding. I want my full 2005 nostalgia experience! pic.twitter.com/LCGjZp8Znj

At this time, it’s unknown for Lautner was offered the role and decline or if he simply wasn’t chosen to play adult Sharkboy. Nevertheless, it looks like fans aren’t going to get the nostalgic reunion they were hoping for in We Can Be Heroes.
