This week, Netflix offered a new look at the upcoming Sharkboy and Lavagirl sequel. The new film is directed by Robert Rodriguez who directed 2005’s The Adventures Of Sharkboy and Lavagirl. The sequel is set within the same world as the original movie, but takes place many years into the future.

We Can Be Heroes follows a team of superheroes called The Heroics. Together, they need to be rescued by their super-power kids after being kidnapped. The Heroics includes actors Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater and Boyd Holbrook.

In the film, both Sharkboy and Lavagirl are parents to a daughter named Guppy, played by Bird Box‘s Vivien Lyra Blair. The sequel, which arrives on New Year’s Day, features the original film’s star Taylor Dooley who now plays an adult Lavagirl. However, her former co-star Taylor Lautner is missing from the sequel as JJ Dashnaw takes on the role of adult Sharkboy.
