Sex Pistols return to the '70s in this first look at the new mini-series 'Pistol'

Earlier this year, we learned that director Danny Boyle is directing a new Sex Pistols mini-series called Pistol exclusively for FX.

Now, Sex Pistols fans are getting their first look at the actors portraying Steve Jones, Sid Vicious, Johnny Rotten, Glen Matlock and Paul Cook in the upcoming limited series.

According to Variety, the Sex Pistols limited series is inspired by Steve Jones’ 2018 memoir Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol. Based on the novel, Pistol will depict Sex Pistols’ truly controversial career in music. From the international uproar that arose from Never Mind The Bollocks to the banning of “God Save The Queen,” Pistol is set to be a historically accurate fiction series for music fans.

Last month, it was announced that Enola Holmes star Louis Partridge is playing Sid Vicious. However, the casting was soon met with some criticism. Alongside Partridge, Sex Pistols fans will see Toby Wallace as Steve Jones, Anson Boon as Johnny Rotten, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook and Christian Lees as Glen Matlock in Pistol. Meanwhile, Iris Law, Jude Law‘s daughter, is making her screen debut as punk icon Soo Catwoman.

Similarly, Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is portraying punk icon Jordan while Dylan Llewellyn is cast as Wally Nightingale. Sydney Chandler and Emma Appleton round out the cast as Chrissie Hynde and Nancy Spungen respectfully.

Now, Sex Pistols fans are finally getting the first look at the upcoming series. This week, Rolling Stone unveiled two new photos from the set of Pistol. The images show the actors recreating the punk legends’ iconic 1977 performance on Top of the Pops. Both photos show the intense acting and accurate portrayal the cast intend to bring to the upcoming FX series.

Pistol is currently in production and is set to include six episodes. The Danny Boyle-directed project will air exclusively on FX.

“Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent,” Boyle previously said in a statement. “This is the moment that British society and culture changed forever. It is the detonation point for British street culture…where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion…and everyone had to watch and listen…and everyone feared them or followed them. The Sex Pistols. At its center was a young charming illiterate kleptomaniac — a hero for the times — Steve Jones. Who became in his own words, the 94th greatest guitarist of all time. This is how he got there.”
