Sights & Sounds (Comeback Kid) release “Serpentine” video—watch

Longtime hardcore bands are more than familiar with Comeback Kid, the Canadian outfit fronted by Andrew Neufeld. As great as that band are, there’s another side to Neufeld’s musical personality that’s curiously alluring: Sights & Sounds, his outfit with his drumming brother Joel.

Today AltPress is premiering the video for “Serpentine,” the latest single from their recently released second album, No Virtue, issued by Static Era earlier this week. While the vibe is more melodic that what fans expect from Andrew, “Serpentine” presents elements that cross over to inspired modern rock, as familiar as Linkin Park, but with a brazen attitude similar to proto-industrial icons Killing Joke.

“‘Serpentine’ is a dive into the deepest parts of our minds,” Andrew says about the song. “The parts that overwhelm us when they are finally recovered. Set behind a hard electronic backdrop, this is definitely the heaviest song on No Virtue and will resonate probably more to those who know me from singing in Comeback Kid. Sights learned a hell of a lot recording our last album with Devin Townsend, and we sent a nod to him on this track, as you will be fully aware of. The song is about the eternal build, when you’re always ‘almost there.’ My brother Joel and I had this song hummed out for probably 10 years now, and we’ve finally brought this beast to life.”

Along with the Neufeld brothers, Sights & Sounds are rounded out by bassist Matt Howes and synth op/keyboardist Dave Grabowski. With No Virtue, the band crafted an ambitious record covering everything from electronic dance-rock (the first single “Resurface”), smoov grooves (“Caught Up,” which features vocals from dream-pop artist Nicole Dollanganger) and the furious “Serpentine.”
