Skrillex and Incubus didn't just collaborate—he produced and mixed their new album

Incubus recently made their big album and tour announcements last month for their upcoming album 8, which is set to be released on April 21.

Along with the news came word that Incubus had also be collaborating with Skrillex on what looked to be a new song. Even further, it was later seen that Deftones' vocalist Chino Moreno was also working with the artists.

Now in a new interview during the Beats 1 Request show, members of Incubus further elaborated that Sonny Moore didn't just feature on one of the tracks—he co-produced and mixed the whole record.

Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger, who's been posting a ton studio updates with Skrillex on his Instagram, notes that he's been friends with Moore for some time now and that he's always been a big Incubus fan.

When he asked how their recording process was going, the band invited Skrillex to the studio where he would put some touches on their track “Familiar Faces,” thinking they'd only spend a couple days together.

From there, Incubus went on to spend two weeks with the musical “virtuoso” as they called him, allowing him to go over the production for most of the songs, while also mixing the entire album.

Einziger had this to say regarding the process:

“We kind of, in a very organic way thought, ‘Hey, maybe we should address a couple of other songs that could use some changing in some way.’ We just had no idea. We ended up just going through the entire album.”

Have no fear though—Incubus states that it will in no way be some sort of dubstep record. But they did go on to praise the multi-talented musician, saying they were “honored” at the opportunity to work with him. And they said Skrillex agreed.

8 will be the eighth studio record for the platinum, grammy-nominated, southern-california rockers. The record will be released on April 21 through Island Records, and comes equipped with a North American tour featuring Jimmy Eat World as support. You can find those dates underneath the interview.
