Slayer NASCAR deal pulled over other sponsors' “reactionary concerns”

Slayer, metal gods that have ruled for nearly 40 years are still blamelessly stirring up controversy in some markets. After recently being announced as the primary sponsor for a NASCAR team, they have been abruptly removed.

Slayer was set to sponsor Rick Ware’s Racing No. 54 car, driven by JJ Yeley in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Well, today that sponsorship was pulled due to “reactionary concerns.” A representative for Slayer released a statement which can be read in full below.

“Last week, Slayer announced that it had joined Rick Ware Racing as the primary sponsor for the No. 54 entry at tomorrow’s Bristol Motor Speedway. Today, reportedly due to reactionary concerns from other long-time participating sponsors, Slayer has been pulled as the primary sponsor, and all Slayer signage has been removed from the car that was to be piloted by Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series veteran, JJ Yeley. The incontrovertible PODS Moving & Storage will now sponsor that car. After nearly 40 years, Slayer apparently remains as terrifying to some as ever.”

Slayer stated that the sponsorship of the car was in the promotion of their final tour. It’s quite a shame as NASCAR allegedly approved the sponsorship, as well as a paint scheme for the car which can be seen below.
