Slipknot founder and percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan is further hinting toward an impending end for the band, saying he might make the group's next album “the last one.” See what the Clown has to say below.

As we previously reported, Crahan recently told Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta on an episode of The Jasta Show that he feels Slipknot's next record “could be it for [him],” lamenting, “We're all getting older. I never like telling anyone, like, 'Hey, this is it!'” But is Crahan really planning on hanging up the mask?

It certainly seems that way. In a new interview with the NME, Crahan discusses the band's plans for entering the studio late next year to begin recording the follow-up to 2014's .5: The Gray Chapter. Should the imminent album actually end up being Slipknot's final release, the group won't be plotting a farewell tour: Crahan says he'll just be going fishing—indefinitely.

“I'm not gonna be like, 'Farewell tour!' then come back,” Crahan says of the band's eventual conclusion. “Never say those words to fans—you have to come back if you say that. For me, it's like, I'm going to go fishing indefinitely.”

As Crahan himself told us, the band are currently writing their next LP (they had “eight songs” in October), and the musician says they “get together every four months just to write”—albeit without vocalist Corey Taylor, who possibly hasn't yet heard the new material due to his ongoing tour with Stone Sour.

And while it sounds like the next LP from the Slipknot crew will be a monster, Crahan's definitely been heavy on the insinuation that the band may be wrapping it up after their upcoming studio set, with the musician mentioning his coming 50th birthday as a possible reason for retiring the mask.

“I've never heard music like… we're doing right now,” he says. “I'll be 50 by the time it comes out. I'll be touring when I'm 50, they'll throw me a birthday party! So where I'm at these days, I'm like, 'Maybe make it the last one.'”

What do you make of Crahan's talk about the band ending? Are you stoked for Slipknot's next album? And do you think it will be their final recording? Sound off in the comments and let us know what you think.

Either way, we hope to meet Clown down at the fishing hole:
