Here’s why you will be seeing more of Smart Hulk in the Marvel Universe

The original Hulk we have known since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is gone. This week, Avengers: Endgame directors the Russo Brothers revealed that the Hulk will be different in the MCU films going forward.

This week, the Russo Brothers took part in a watch party of Avengers: Endgame to celebrate the film’s one-year anniversary. During this time, they answered all sorts of fan questions on Twitter including looming ones regarding the Hulk.

Over the years, the Hulk has gone through a number of incarnations. There’s Maestro Hulk, the evil older version with an iron fist that rules over his planet. There is also Devil Hulk which is made up of Bruce Banner’s darkest emotions that threaten to turn the Hulk into the ultimate supervillain. Now, the Russo Brothers are confirming that Bruce Banner is permanently fused with his green alter ego as the incarnation Smart Hulk.

The Marvel-directing duo took to their Twitter to answer a number of questions including one about the Hulk’s original personality and where it stands as the Marvel film franchise continues.

“The personality that now exists is a new entity…it is a merger of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. #AvengersAssemble”

This ultimately means that the Hulk will keep his one-of-a-kind green form, but will have the brains of Banner. Marvel audiences going forward will no longer see the out-of-control, unpredictable and destructive Hulk in future films. Instead, it appears that Banner has achieved his main goal of getting his green alter-ego under control. Fans first got a glimpse of Smart Hulk in Avengers: Endgame.

Unfortunately, fans eager to see Smart Hulk on the big screen again will be waiting a bit longer to do so. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, many film releases have been delayed including ones in the Marvel Universe.

Last month, Disney shared its revised released schedule for 2020 and 2021. Although Mark Ruffalo confirmed that there are no immediate plans for a solo Hulk film, fans will have to wait longer to see the green hero appear in upcoming Marvel Universe films. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Thor: Love And Thunder, and Black Widow are three Marvel Phase 4 movies with confirmed release delays.

Among all of this, some fans are hoping that the Hulk will make a cameo in the Disney+ planned She-Hulk show. Last month, Ruffalo shared he is in talks to make an appearance on the new show. However, a confirmed cameo has not been announced yet.
