A Smashing Pumpkins house show got broken up by police
The recently three-quarters-reunited Smashing Pumpkins attempted to recreate the youthful spirit of their now-classic “1979” music video with a special house party performance in Los Angeles last week, as reported by Billboard.
Nonetheless, the gig — which happened at the same residence as appears in the clip for the mid-’90s Mellon Collie hit — was shut down by police after neighbors reported the “disturbance of our nihilistic noize,” as frontman Billy Corgan puts it.

The Pumpkins’ house show happened after the band’s club gig at the Troubadour on Wednesday night. Hot on the heels of recent comeback single “Solara,” the band are preparing for this month’s start of the Shiny And Oh So Bright Tour.
But while the Smashing ones were able to reel of the bulk of their live show for the amassed Studio City crowd, those at the inventive “1979” house gig didn’t get the Pumpkins’ “Cherub Rock” encore, unfortunately. Per Billboard:
“Citing loud noises and an influx of cars taking up all the street parking, neighbors complained, eventually forcing the police to get involved. Fortunately, the band was able to finish their set, but their planned ‘Cherub Rock’ encore didn’t pan out.”
