There’s now a Spotify subscription plan just for music-loving couples

Spotify has been making improvements for its users recently. Back in May, the streaming service began allowing users to have an unlimited amount of songs in their libraries. As well, Spotify made their Spotify For Artists app easier to navigate.

Now, the streaming platform is launching a premium plan that is more affordable for those music-loving couples out there.

Spotify has unveiled a cheaper subscription option for couples called Premium Duo. As of July 1, the plan is available in the United States as well as 54 other markets.

The Premium Duo plan now allows two people living at the same address to have individual premium accounts at a lower post of $12.99 per month. This is in comparison to an individual plan which is $9.99 and a student plan which costs $4.99 per month. Spotify’s family plan which includes up to six accounts under one roof is currently $14.99 per month.

In March of 2019, Spotify first began testing this new tier of subscription plans. Premium Duo was made available in countries including Colombia, Chile, Denmark, Ireland and Poland.

In a new blog post, the company notes some of the user study findings. Within the study, Spotify found that of the couples who listen to music together, 73 percent say it’s a way to remember happy memories. Meanwhile, 63 percent say music helps build even more memories.

Along with Premium Duo, couples will have access to Duo Mix. The playlist combines music each member of the plan plays. It comes preloaded with genres, artists and songs each plan member has listened to on their own. As they continue to listen, Duo Mix updates with the latest songs. Premium Duo also allows couples to share playlists with each other.

“Today we are proud to launch Spotify Premium Duo, a first-of-its-kind audio offering for just two people in the same household,” Spotify’s chief freemium business officer Alex Norström says. “Premium Duo includes our extensive music and podcast catalog and everything users love about Spotify Premium. With two individual Premium accounts, you can both listen independently, uninterrupted, and get all of your personalized playlists and features tailored just for you.”

Users who haven’t tried Spotify Premium before might be eligible to get one month of Premium Duo for free. As well, existing Premium subscribers can switch to Premium Duo via their Spotify account page. Those who upgrade to Premium Duo will still have their same accounts along with all of their saved music, podcasts and playlists.
