Spotify Tastebuds feature to allow music discovery through your friends
Spotify has been making a lot of changes to their service over the past year and it looks like they're aiming to expand their social sharing features more going forward.
According to The Verge, the streaming service will be testing a new feature allowing users to look through their friend's listening habits to discover new music for themselves.
The new feature, deemed Tastebuds, allows users to search through people they follow to see what songs they play most.
Not very much is known about the feature at the moment but a landing page can be found here explaining a bit about it.
Users can click the pen icon shown in the tweet above to search through people they follow, view what songs they’ve been playing the most, and add songs to their own library from there. The function will be nested alongside the Home and Library tabs.
Social sharing hasn't been a main concern for Spotify, but that could change in the future. Right now, the Activity Feed showing songs played by people you follow is limited to desktop.
Tastebuds could be a reworking of the streaming giant's Friends Weekly playlist that was tested earlier in 2019. If it goes well with users, social sharing could be incorporated in their app more moving forward.
