'Star Wars' to get new TV series starring 'Rogue One' character

Get excited Star Wars fans, it appears as though one of our favorite rebels from Rogue One: A Star War’s Story will be making a comeback.

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced the news earlier today, where he shared that Disney will be creating a live-action Star Wars TV show focused on the beloved rebel spy, Cassian Andor.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the forthcoming television series will be dropped on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+, and will follow Rogue One‘s Cassian Andor.

As if it wasn’t exciting enough that the spin-off series is even happening, hearing the news that Diego Luna (who played Andor in the film) is reprising his role for the show is even better.

“Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me,” Luna said in a statement. “I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply.”

Further details of the forthcoming TV series have been pretty quiet, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely hush-hush.

The statement from Star Wars continues on by saying that the new series will “explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire.”

A release date for the upcoming TV show surrounding Andor has yet to be revealed, but if we had to guess it should come sometime in the coming year.

The news of this Cassian Andor spinoff series follows the already-announced show The Mandalorian, which is the Star Wars’ live-action TV series that’s coming from director Jon Favreau.
