'Star Trek' icon Leonard Nimoy dies at 83
Leonard Nimoy, known most notably for his iconic role as Spock in the science fiction franchise Star Trek, was confirmed dead earlier this morning by his wife, Susan Nimoy. As the New York Times reported, she claimed the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. He was 83.
Nimoy revealed that he had the ailment in 2014, attributing its cause to years of smoking. He is said to have given up the habit roughly three decades earlier.
As ABC News pointed out, just earlier this week he tweeted wrote what would be his final tweet, which read: “A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP.” (The ending refers to his signature adage, “Live long and prosper.”)
