'Star Wars: Episode VII' gets release date

Mark your calendars Star Wars fans. Today Lucasfilm announced the release date for Star Wars: Episode VII: Dec. 18, 2015. 

In the press release regarding the announcement, Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, which bought Lucasfilm earlier this year, said, “We're very excited to share the official 2015 release date for Star Wars: Episode VII, where it will not only anchor the popular holiday film-going season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture.”

Star Wars: Episode VII, which will be directed by J.J. Abrams (Mission: Impossible IIIStar Trek) and is being written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders Of The Lost ArkThe Empire Strikes BackReturn Of The Jedi), is scheduled to begin shooting spring 2014.
