Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte is back earlier than ever this year

Start the fire and roll out the flannel blankets because autumn is officially here. Starbucks has finally announced the launch of its beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte.

The seasonal beverage is making its return earlier than ever this year.

On Monday, Starbucks launched a fall hotline to help out PSL lovers as they anxiously awaited the arrival of the seasonal drunk. The 1-833-GET-FALL hotline has eight options in total that feature various seasonal scenes, sounds and activities.

For example, if you hit the number 6 on your phone, you’ll be directed to “Endless PSL Perfection,” which is where you’ll hear someone ordering a Pumpkin Spice Latte. You’ll also hear a barista creating the sweet seasonal beverage.

Now, customers no longer have to listen to a PSL being ordered through Starbucks’ hotline. The coffee chain has launched the Pumpkin Spice Latte earlier than ever this year. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 25, the seasonal beverage is available to order from its menu.

Last year, the PSL arrived on Aug. 27, the earliest date at the time. In 2018, it was back on the coffee chain’s menu on Aug. 28. Prior to 2018, however, the seasonal beverage never arrived before Labor Day.

Along with the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Starbucks’ Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew is also returning. The iced drink, which first launched in 2019, is topped with pumpkin cream cold foam and dusted with pumpkin spice.

The two seasonal beverages are accompanied by some sweet bakery treats this year. Customers are now able to order pumpkin scones and pumpkin cream cheese muffins.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte is one of Starbucks’ most popular items and has been for nearly two decades. Since its introduction to Starbucks’ menu in 2003, over 400 million PSLs have been sold.

Although the PSL is hitting Starbucks’ menu earlier than ever before, it still isn’t the first to arrive in 2020. Dunkin’ launched its fall menu on Aug. 19. Along with various seasonal sweet treats, Dunkin’ rolled out its own Pumpkin Spice Latte which is available hot or cold. Other pumpkin and maple-flavored sweet tweets are also on its seasonal menu.

Despite Starbucks’ domination in the coffee industry, the company has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Back in June, the company revealed its plans to close up to 400 locations. This is in efforts to focus more on drive-thru and pick up services.
