Physicist Stephen Hawking has died peacefully at his home in Cambridge at the age of 76, BBC reports.
The scientist, well known for his work with black holes and relativity, was only given two years to live after being diagnosed with the motor neurone disease ALS.
However, he went on to Cambridge and bravely battled ALS to become one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Einstein. In 1988, he published A Brief History of Time, which “plunges into the exotic realms of black holes and quarks” and more, all in a language we can understand.
Musicians have taken to social media to pay tribute to the hero of scientists and creative thinkers alike.

Sad to hear of Stephen Hawking’s passing but extremely grateful for his contributions. He was a first-rate example of what a curious mind can achieve and how it can also inspire. Equally important as his theories. Thank you for everything… -RP pic.twitter.com/vTsEiZLdwb
