Earlier this week, a video of Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp resurfaced. In the video, the 15-year-old actor can be seen singing along to Chris Brown and Lil Dicky‘s “Freaky Friday.”

Now, Schnapp has come under fire for reportedly saying the n-word in the video.

Lil Dicky and Chris Brown’s “Freaky Friday” features the use of the n-word in various parts of the song. In the resurfaced video, some say they can hear Schnapp using the racial slur while singing along to the track.

The video has caused a lot of controversy since its resurfacing this week. In fact, the hashtag #NoahSchnappIsOverParty began trending on Twitter shortly after the video was posted. Thousands of Twitter users used the hashtag to share the video and express their thoughts.

Now, Schnapp is speaking out about the video. In a statement shared on his Instagram story, the Stranger Things actor says he did not say the n-word. Instead, he replaced the word with “neighbor” in the video.

“Hi guys,” Schnapp says. “Recently a video from last summer has gotten out of me dancing and singing a song while singing the word ‘neighbor’ over the n-word. I would truly never say the n-word and I’m not the type of person.”

Schnapp goes on to say that he has never used the word in his life and using the replacement word “neighbor” was a collective decision amongst his friends.

“I genuinely have never used that word in my life,” he continues. “Using the word ‘neighbor’ in that song was just something my camp friends and I did. I hope you all understand I could never even think about doing that. My friends also would never post a video, or support me, if I was saying that slur without hesitation.”

Schnapp then apologizes for using the replacement word.

“I apologize for using a replacement word. It is not my place to use one and I should of kept my mouth shut. I understand why it is found offensive and I am sorry.”
