Today, tens of thousands of students in the U.S. are walking out of school to demand action on gun violence in the biggest demonstration of student activism since last month's massacre in Florida, as The Chicago Tribune reports.

Marking one month since the Feb. 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, students are leaving class at 10 a.m. local time today to walk out for 17 minutes as a way of paying tribute to the 17 victims who lost their lives.
“I think halfway through it really hit me, and I think everyone around, that these are teenagers just like us and that their lives were taken innocently—and that time is needed for change,” high schooler Max Poteat, a student who helped lead a walkout at North Carolina's East Chapel Hill High School, told The Chicago Tribune.
The walkout today is preceding the March 24 March For Our Lives in Washington, organized by Stoneman Douglas students, which is expected to bring more than 500,000 protesters to Washington, D.C. to demand action on gun violence, as Billboard reports.
Musicians are showing their support for the students participating in the walkout today, commending their action and demanding a change.
Mark Hoppus:
I am 100% on the side of kids not wanting to be shot in school, over those whose only wish is to sell more and deadlier guns.

If you are forced to serve detentions for walking out, remember you will be able to vote out those school boards that do not allow you to express your feelings. This march is about the youth taking control of their future. #NeverAgain
