The first Suicide Squad had its ups and downs, and inarguably, some scenes could have been toned down a bit.

In a new interview with Yahoo UKstar Joel Kinnaman talks more about the sequel to the DC fan favorite flick, saying it's likely going to be a “more grounded version” of the film this time around.

He cites the third scene as being a little over-the-top, saying that the characters' extremity and plot were almost too much when paired together.

“It was a great set-up, great characters. I think when we do the second one, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a more grounded version of the film,” Kinnaman says. “I think the characters are so extreme, so it could be more effective if we saw less sorcery. I think the characters become more extreme if you see them in conjunction with real people.”

Kinnaman played Rick Flag in the first flick, and though it hasn't been officially confirmed that he's returning to the sequel, this interview makes it seem as though he is.

It's been previously confirmed that Michael De Luca is set to produce Suicide Squad 2, joining writer Gavin O'Connor on the sequel, which stars “Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto.

Suicide Squad 2 is reportedly a top priority at Warner Bros., and they believe shooting isn’t expected to start until fall 2018.

Suicide Squad made massive waves at the box office, and the soundtrack broke some incredible records, too. Featuring Twenty One Pilots and Panic! At The Disco, it was the first soundtrack to reach No. 1 in the U.S. in over a year—which is pretty dang impressive.

We're just stoked to see who makes their return to the film series—and what's in store for a “grounded” Suicide Squad 2.
