As previously reported, Waterhouse and Reynolds will be starring alongside Justice Smith, who's starring in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as well as Kathryn Newton, who stars in Big Little Lies.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story is set into motion when Smith's character's father is kidnapped, forcing the crew to team up with Detective Pikachu to find him.

Goosebumps director Rob Letterman is set to direct the film, which reportedly started shooting mid-January in London.

Most of the details of the project are being kept off the grid, but we’re excited to see how Detective Pikachu comes to life on the big screen—with Reynolds as the star.

In the meantime, watch a trailer for the Detective Pikachu video game, which might give us some hints toward the plot of the live-action film…
