SoCal pop-reggae 4th & Orange announce signing with debut single

AP is proudly teaming up with upcoming pop-reggae outfit 4th & Orange in this exclusive premiere for the band’s debut single, “Girl Next Door.”

Merging pop elements with reggae in the likes of Sublime, “Girl Next Door” introduces the band’s summery, poolside vibe along with their storytelling style that draws on relatable circumstances from real-life experiences.

“I wrote it about six years ago, and that’s when I was in the phase of learning how to write ‘stories’ in music,” 4th & Orange singer Garrett Douglas says. “I lived in a three-story apartment building, and that’s where the story idea for the elevator came from. We tell stories in our music, so it’s important for me to write words that can paint pictures in your head. That way, the listener can visualize at the same time.”

The frontman further emphasizes the importance of connecting to the audience with the music’s message.

“When you sing about things we all go through, I personally feel like that’s when the person becomes a fan because they can actually relate,” Douglas continues.

4th & Orange signed a solo record deal with Atlantic Records/Latium Entertainment. The single was co-produced by Grammy-nominated producer DJ Flict (Sublime With Rome, Wiz Khalifa, Lauryn Hill) and Mark Pelli (Magic!, Chris Brown, J. Cole).

The band were co-founded by two longtime friends, Douglas and Chris “DJ Irey” Garcia. They eventually parted ways and pursued their own paths in music, with Douglas moving on as a songwriter under the name Beach Boy and Garcia becoming a producer as DJ Irey.

But after about a decade, the two circled back and crossed paths in early 2019. With their creative energy and experience in the music industry, the two joined forces, and 4th & Orange were born.

“The goal of our music is to bring light to others in dark situations,” Douglas says. “Both Irey and I came from a rough past, but that’s how we connected and created 4th & Orange. Our music reminds others that in the dark, you can be the light.”

“Girl Next Door” is available now via Atlantic Records/Latium Entertainment. Check out the lyric video below.
