Matt Maeson captures ’90s vibes in new music video—watch

Matt Maeson and AP are joining forces to bring you his “I Just Don’t Care That Much” music video from his debut album Bank On The Funeral.

Maeson had an unconventional start to his career. He traveled with his parents’ prison ministry to maximum-security prisons across North America and put on shows for the inmates. After getting into some trouble, the young vocalist started working in construction and did community service.

After a while, he began to travel the country again, mostly performing for inmates like he had when he just started making music. Maeson later signed to Neon Gold/Atlantic Records, where he released his debut EP Who Killed Matt Maeson in 2017.

Now, the artist is ready to debut his first full-length along with a music video for “I Just Don’t Care That Much.”

“‘I Just Don’t Care That Much’ is about needing time—time to change and time to process,” he explains. “It’s about getting so wrapped up in your relationship and work that you start to lose love for yourself and lose who you are.”

“Who you are is what got you where you’re at in the first place.” Maeson continues. “It’s about accepting that you can’t do everything but realizing that you can do enough.”

The video is a continuation from his last music video for Beggar’s Song, both of which were inspired by a nostalgic aesthetic and shot completely on 16mm film and directed by Weston Razooli.

“The video was inspired by the ’90s era [and movies such as] The Florida Project, Mid90s and Lords Of Dogtown,” the vocalist says. “Not necessarily the ‘burnout becomes victorious’ kind of story, but more like the ‘burnout realizes he could go two different directions,’ one easier than the other, and [he] knows that a decision has to be made.”
