The film, based on the 2020 novel by Suzanne Collins, is set in Panem 64 years before the events of The Hunger Games and follows a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and his relationship with a District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler), who he’s assigned to mentor for the 10th annual games. Directed by Francis Lawrence, who helmed three of the four original Hunger Games movies, the film is due out Nov. 17 and also stars Hunter Schafer, Viola Davis, Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, and others.

The newly released trailer shows the powers at be in Panem deciding to turn the Hunger Games into more of a spectacle than ever before, as ordered by Peter Dinklage’s character, the Hunger Games creator Dean Casca Highbottom. As fans of the original movies will recognize, the clip shows that the games are clearly still in their early iterations, with a scrappier arena and its first-ever host (Schwartzman) this time around. The trailer offers glimpses at all of the lead cast and teases a sleek, stylish production design that looks more set in our world than the futuristic Hunger Games, and lots of thrills.
