UK band’s visa denial prompts Donald Trump Rubik’s Cube mural, song

Imagine spending almost all of your money applying for visas just to play one concert in America. U.K. indie-punk band Airways did just that and were ultimately rejected from entering the country to play SXSW in Austin, Texas, earlier this year.

In response to their visa denial, they dropped a music video for their single “Alien.” The track is off of their upcoming EP due out in 2019. This is their first release since their 2017 EP Starting To Spin.

“Last year we spent most of our money applying for visas so we could play in America,” the band stated. “The application got declined without an explanation. We wrote this song about it, and with the money we had left, we decided to order some Rubik’s Cubes and arrange them into something special.”

That something special just happens to be President Donald Trump. In total, the band used 443 cubes to create his portrait, and let’s just say it’s not exactly flattering, but it’s well-crafted.

This music video isn’t just a poke at America’s current political climate. It also serves as a way to bring attention to the Thousand Oaks, California, shooting and promote gun legislation.

Airways were formed in this city in 2016 and addressed the shooting in the video’s description.

“We spent a lot of time there and made several friends,” the band says. “Twelve people were killed there last night. Please donate via the link to support gun control and better gun laws in the USA.”

You can help them with their cause by donating to Everytown For Gun Safety, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence.
