The brand announced in an Instagram post on Thursday they’re planning to release a CBD-infused ice cream in the near future.
For those who don’t understand the specifics of cannabis, typical flowers contain mostly THC which has psychoactive properties while CBD gives most of the medical benefits without the high.
CBD has become a trend that numerous brands have been hopping on and Ben & Jerry’s fully admits in their post they’re trend hopping.
“Trend alert! CBD-infused ice cream is (maybe, hopefully) coming to a freezer near you! Learn more at the link in our bio,” their post reads.
CBD is still currently illegal federally in the U.S. but the company is hoping after today’s hearing on the legalization of CBD-infused foods and beverages they’ll be good to go. They even submitted a comment in support of legalization, which, isn’t overly surprising considering the potential profits.
While Ben & Jerry’s is extremely unlikely to determine whether the government approves CBD infused products, their support could bring more attention. A proper vote is expected to be held on July 2 and if you want to submit a comment of your own, you can do so here.
