'Fallout 4' creators aimed for complex systems over graphics

Fallout 4 sure made a grand impression at this year's E3, but many noted that while good, the graphics of the Fallout 4 stage demo weren't show stopping. According to Bethesda's Pete Hines, this was intentional. Speaking with GameSpot, Hines noted that “we could make the best looking game possible, but we dial some of that back in order to allow for all of these other things,” he explains. “If you want to pick flowers and make potions all day, then that's what you're role-playing, If you want to go shoot everybody in the head with a laser-musket, then that's what you're role-playing.”

Bethesda have always taken high care with their RPGs, making sure the player has complete freedom over their experience, even over graphics (though mods will totally change that), and that seems to be the case with Fallout 4.
