‘Child’s Play’ reboot teases Buddi doll reveal in upcoming trailer

Back in July, it was revealed that a Child’s Play reboot was in the works. We got a sneak peek of the new version of Chucky, deemed Buddi, in an obscured first poster in November. Now, it looks like the big reveal is on its way.

Following the launch of a cartoon-centric creepy toy website and blood-soaked holiday e-cards and wallpapers, Child’s Play is finally giving a hint of when we’ll see the new Buddi.

It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are set to produce the movie. Lars Klevberg will direct the film and Tyler Burton Smith will write the script.

Aubrey Plaza (Parks And Recreation) and Gabriel Bateman (Lights Out) portray mother and son Karen and Andy Barclay respectively. Karen gives Andy a toy doll for his birthday and is unaware of its sinister nature.

According to Collider, there’s not a lot of information on movie yet, but there are some hints about the plot. It will be a contemporary reboot, which involves a group of kids and “a technologically-advanced doll that enters their world.”

Following the obscured teaser poster in November, we got a hint of what the doll might look like in December. According to a press release that was sent to Bloody-Disgusting, MastersFX, the studio that is responsible for bringing this new killer doll to life, has explained what their approach to Chucky’s iconic look has been.

As the release notes, trying to reimagine any beloved horror icon would be difficult for anyone, but with this new and unique vision that the Lars Klevberg-directed film has going for it, recreating the classic character hasn’t been as difficult as one would imagine. In fact, it seems to be quite the opposite.

Per the report, the studio describes the doll as “a contemporary version of the iconic Good Guys doll” and with this new concept of the franchise, that “is not a remake or retelling but a completely new style and concept,” it has led them to “believe that BUDDI fits with this vision perfectly.”

So, we apparently won’t be seeing a new and improved Chucky after all, rather, a Buddi doll that represents all the new concepts for this forthcoming reboot.

Now, Buddi’s creators Kaslan Corporation are teasing the big reveal, aka “global launch” for this Friday, Feb. 8. We can only assume this means we’ll be getting the first trailer for the upcoming reboot.

Child’s Play hits theaters June 21, 2019, and you can check out the teaser below.

The new Child’s Play reboot posters

In November, the film’s Twitter account posted an up-close image of the killer doll and what appears to be a kitchen knife. As if that’s not unsettling enough, they later followed it up with an official poster and release date.

The following week, the film’s Twitter account posted the first poster, which doesn’t reveal too much about the upcoming flick.

A toy box is set in the middle of what appears to be a factory surrounded by other boxes of the same nature. The name “Buddi” is emblazoned across the bottom instead of the original movie’s “Good Guys,” the latter of which is also on the original Chucky’s overalls.

The name change alone suggests the doll itself will look different. The logo also includes a wi-fi signal, which lends back to the original plot reveal about a contemporary update.
