Coke confirms it’s looking “closely” at growing demand for the drinks. CBD-infused beverages harness the power of the plant’s cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana purported to have various health benefits.

“Along with many others in the beverage industry, we are closely watching the growth of non-psychoactive CBD as an ingredient in functional wellness beverages around the world,” read a statement from the Coca-Cola Company on Monday.

Collaboration between Coke and the cannabis company is lobbed as possibly stirring the public’s seemingly stalled interest in the century-old soda slinger’s sugary soft drinks, as noted by Canadian financial channel BNN Bloomberg.

Will Coke start making CBD-infused drinks?

A source who has direct knowledge of the talks says Coke and Aurora Cannabis are “pretty advanced down the path” of forging a deal, according to BNN. “It’s going to be more of the ‘recovery drink’ category,” they added of the beverage.

And Coca-Cola test-marketed an alcoholic drink in Japan earlier this year, per USA Today. And a new, CBD-infused drink may show Coke’s continued desire to stretch out into beverage sectors other than your standard soft drink.
