Honoring Projekt Records' darkwave dynasty with Goldmine

In an article which lays out some of the darkwave scenes most prominent players, Goldmine magazine honors the legendary Projekt Records through the lens of 40 albums, released over 40 years. The genre is described, astutely by Dave Thompson as, “a musical form that slipped beneath the horizons of traditional electronic and classic goth, to engineer a hybrid that was less a genre than a lifestyle.”

In breaking down the history of such a pivotal force in underground music, Goldmine gives us a thorough understanding of the label who’s artists have not only paved the way for darkwave music as a whole over four decades, but also graced the pages of Alternative Press over the years, many times over.

From Black Tape for a Blue Girl (pictured below from AP‘s issue 127) to Lycia, who went on to open for O-Negative, the creatives across goth and ambient soundscapes who were backed by Projekt Records and presented in AP‘s print publication have continued to prove themselves an important facet of alternative music’s multi-layered backbone today.
