Dogs love reggae, jury still out on pop punk
You've probably jammed to your favorite band with your dog more than once, right? But have you ever thought about what your dog might want to listen to?
A study done by the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found that dogs preferred reggae and soft rock.

The study took place by piping music into the dog's kennels and identifying physiological and behavioral changes within the dog.
“We were keen to explore the effect playing different genres of music had, and it was clear that the physiological and behavioral changes observed were maintained during the trial when the dogs were exposed to a variety of music,” said PhD student Amy Bowman.
The dogs listened to soft rock, Motown, pop, reggae, and classical, but it was shown that the dogs preferred soft rock and reggae.
“Overall, the response to different genres was mixed highlighting the possibility that like humans, our canine friends have their own individual music preferences,” said Professor Neil Evans.
The SPCA Centers in both Glasgow and Edinburgh plan on creating a dog-approved playlist that they will be able to pipe in to every dog's kennel. They hope every center will be able to do this in the future so the research can continue along to different animal species.
