Apparently Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was almost in this Tim Burton film

It looks like we could have seen Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson trade in his action movie persona for a role in a Tim Burton film.

Over the weekend, the actor revealed that Burton considered him for a starring role in one of his most well-known films.

Johnson took to Instagram on Sunday to share a clip of his favorite film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. The 1971 film stars the late Gene Wilder and is an adaptation of the book by Roald Dahl.

Over the weekend, Johnson introduced the film to his kids for the first time. The actor also reveals that he was almost in Burton’s 2005 remake Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Johnson says that the director was considering him for the starring role of Willy Wonka. However, the role eventually went to Johnny Depp.

“Some cool history,” he says. “Back in the early 2000’s, iconic director, Tim Burton had considered me to play Willy Wonka in his remake, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'”

Johnson further shares that he was passed on because he was relatively new in the industry. Burton felt that he wasn’t a big enough name to carry a global film.

“I remember thinking HOLY SHIT, IM IN,” he continues. “But that was many years ago when I was just starting out in Hollywood with no foundation of global box office strength or any real acting experience to even pull it off. The role, of course went to Johnny Depp, who at that time was the biggest star in the world.”

Johnson humbly notes his appreciation for even being considered for the role. The consideration meant a lot to him especially since he was a newer actor at the time.

“The fact that Tim even considered me (albeit I’m sure he considered for all of 7 seconds),” he says. “Sure meant a helluva lot to me as I was just breaking in to the business with no idea what the future had in store.”

Johnson ends his Instagram post by sharing what he learned from the experience.

“I’ll always raise a glass to the dreams that don’t come true because sometimes they’re the best thing that never happened,” he says.

Since its release in 2005, Depp’s portrayal of Willy Wonka has been debated amongst critics. While some say its one of Depp’s worst acting roles and films, others praise him for his portrayal of the peculiar character. Wilder, the original Willy Wonka, even had a controversial opinion on the 2005 remake before his passing in 2016.

Now that Johnson is one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, maybe its time for another Charlie And The Chocolate Factory remake?
