Ewan McGregor cast in 'The Shining' sequel, 'Doctor Sleep'

The new movie will be helmed by director Mike Flanagan, who put his stamp on Netflix‘s recent adaptation of King’s Gerald’s Game. Trevor Macy, Flanagan’s producing partner, is also on board, along with Vertigo Entertainment’s Jon Berg.

Judging from the report, Warner Bros. has been attempting to get this The Shining remake off the ground for quite some time, in addition to a prequel called Overlook Hotel. An expected release date for the new film is still under wraps.

Doctor Sleep, published in 2013, begins as the spiritually-enhanced Torrance “carries the trauma of the Overlook Hotel into adulthood,” per Variety. Child actor Danny Lloyd play Torrance in the 1980 film version of The Shining.

‘The Shining,’ re-shined

Late director Stanley Kubrick crafted King’s original novel into the iconic 1980 horror film starring Jack Nicholson. King reportedly remains disappointed with the movie, however. A 1997 television remake attempted to right King’s vision.
