'Fear Factor' is coming back with a twist, Ludacris will host

Turns out MTV did not forget. In fact, the network is reviving the series, and Ludacris will host, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The new Fear Factor will put a twist on the unscripted show's original formula. In an attempt to target a younger audience, the stunts will no longer be confined to eating spiders and jumping between trains.

Instead, contestants, split into four pairs, will face more modern fears, reflecting millennial anxieties. The Hollywood Reporter offers “couch surfing at 300 feet” and waterlogging cell phones as examples.

The new look aims to be a cathartic experience for the watcher, pulling inspiraction from “urban legends, scary movies and online videos,” The Hollywood Reporter adds.

Fear Factor has been signed on for 12 episodes and will air Tuesday, May 30 at 10 p.m. on MTV.

MTV, which is owned by Viacom, has signed an overall deal with the multitalented musician and actor Ludacris. Fear Factor is the first project in the deal.

Ludacris replaces Rogan as host. Rogan reprised his host role in 2011 when the show was rebooted for one season on NBC.

Fear Factor originally began in 2001 and aired until 2006.
