See how Laurie Strode’s story continues in the first ‘Halloween Kills’ teaser
Back in 2019, Halloween fans learned that two back-to-back sequels of the franchise were in the works – Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. Now, it has been announced that Halloween Kills‘ 2020 release is delayed until next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As well, other highly anticipated horror films including Candyman and Forever Purge are all facing release delays. Despite these setbacks, Halloween fanatics are getting their first look into Halloween Kills with a new teaser.

2018’s Halloween sequel starring Jamie Lee Curtis was widely successful. It was rated favorably by both critics and moviegoers. The film grossed $254.3 million worldwide. Its opening weekend saw the movie earning an estimated $77.5 million, placing it second to IT as the biggest opening for a horror movie ever.
Following its success, two more follow-ups in the franchise were ordered – Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. Halloween Kills was set to debut this Oct. 16 while Halloween Ends had a release date of Oct. 15, 2021.
Over the past few months, Curtis has been sharing some sneak peeks into the new film on social media. Not only did she share an exclusive behind-the-scenes photo, but she also shared a video taken on set of the film.
However, as theaters remain closed and cases continue to spike in the United States, both of the follow-up films have now been delayed. Now, Halloween Kills will arrive a whole year later than scheduled on Oct. 15, 2021. This means that Halloween Ends is delayed until Oct. 14, 2022.
The film’s creator John Carpenter and director/writer David Gordon Green confirmed the delays this week.
“If we release [Halloween Kills] in October this year as planned, we have to face the reality that the film would be consumed in a compromised theatrical experience,” they say. “After weighing our options, we have chosen to push the film’s theatrical release by one year.”

Along with the news, Universal has committed to an IMAX release of the film next year.
“We are sound mixing with one of the greatest design teams that can slash, scream, and creep their way under your skin,” they say.

Along with the Halloween franchise’s delays, a few other highly-anticipated horror films are also being pushed back. Jordan Peele and Nia DaCosta‘s remake of Candyman is being delayed a few months. The film was originally set to arrive in June and was pushed to Sept. 25. Now, it is being pushed again and will arrive Oct. 16. Last month, we got a chilling new look into the 1992 remake with a new teaser.
As well, the new Purge film Forever Purge is now arriving July 9, 2021. The film was initially removed from the release calendar altogether after its original July 10, 2020 release.
As an apology to fans for the Halloween films’ delays, Carpenter has released a new teaser for Halloween Kills. Picking up right where the 2018 film left off, the 30 second clip reveals what could be in store for Laurie Strode, her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and grandchild Allyson (Andi Matichak).
The three of them are laying in the bed of a pickup truck, very injured from what transpired at the end of the 2018 film. They see ambulances rushing in the opposite direction towards the burning home and Strode, played by Curtis, is yelling “let him burn” over and over again.
