'Guardians' fans erect billboard for fired director James Gunn

A group of dedicated Guardians Of The Galaxy fans apparently really, really want dismissed director James Gunn back in the chair for the upcoming Vol. 3 movie. So much so, in fact, that they went and bought a billboard near Los Angeles urging Disney to “Rehire James Gunn,” as noted by The Hollywood Reporter. See the billboard below.

The giant appeal ad recently appeared in Garden Grove, California, at an intersection just a few miles away from nearby Disneyland in Anaheim. It reads, “Save the Galaxy: James Gunn for Vol. 3” and was funded by a GoFundMe campaign.

29-year-old Ohio resident Giuseppe Cincinnato is one of the voices behind the drive to get Gunn back in the studio’s good graces. And he tells THR that their Guardians campaign isn’t just an impulsive act of outrage from overzealous fans.

“We really love Gunn as both a creator and the man we’ve seen him mature into,” he says. “Even if this wasn’t going to cause Disney to see their mistake, we could at least show James Gunn how much support he has in his corner of the galaxy.”

The Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 director was let go by Disney and Marvel earlier this year for some controversial tweets in his past. Right now, he’s reportedly in talks to write and direct a follow-up to 2016’s DC Comics supervillain vehicle Suicide Squad.

What do you think of the L.A. billboard asking Disney to rehire James Gunn for Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3? Do you feel like the filmmaker should be given a second chance by the movie studio? Sound off in the comments section.
