Hear Gerard Way sing on Jimmy Urine’s new track, “Sailor In A Life Boat”

We first caught wind of a Jimmy Euringer (aka Jimmy Urine) and Gerard Way collab in mid-August, and we’ve been patiently waiting since then for a listen. Today, your wishes (and ours) are granted as AP have partnered with Urine to premiere the track from his upcoming LP, Euringer.

The Mindless Self Indulgence and My Chemical Romance frontmen have been friends for a while, all the way back to MCR opening for MSI in NYC. As a result, the feature was a total no-brainer for both parties who met up with Way’s engineer Doug McKean.

“Gerard could have sung almost every other song on this record, so I knew I wanted to get him on something,” Urine explains. “It was super-fun working him. As Doug would get the track and studio up to speed, Gerard would write some comics while he was waiting because that motherfucker never stops working.

“Gerard would pop in, knock out the vocal perfect, then we would chill and bullshit about Warhammer 40,000 and geeky stuff,” he continues. “Then, I think we ate some of Lyn-Z’s [Way’s wife and MSI bassist] famous homemade lasagna for dinner—great chill vibes.”

Way echoed the experience, stating he was thrilled about working with Urine, and it was a very quick, easy process. He also revealed how the album as a whole impressed him.

“The thing about this record that really blew me away is how experimental it is,” he says. “Knowing Jimmy, I didn’t simply expect a Mindless 2.0 record, but nothing really prepared me for just how out there he got with this one.

“It’s exciting,” he continues. “Yes, it has hooks that he is great at writing, [and] yes, it is fun and dancey at times, but [it’s] also really bold and different. Jimmy stretched himself in new and interesting ways, which was awesome to hear—expect the unexpected with this one.”

Urine also pushed himself with the content of “Sailor In A Life Boat.”

“The meaning of the song is that I’m very comfortable being alone and being by myself,” Urine says. “I have always been that way, and I think that a lot of people are not comfortable with being alone socially. That led me to the ‘sailor in a life boat’ lyric. I can be alone for long periods. Obviously I couldn’t live without my wife, and I love my close friends and family. But I am also totally fine hanging out by myself, and I have been that way since I was a kid.”

“Sailor In A Life Boat” appears on Urine’s Euringer LP, which also includes appearances by System Of A Down’s Serj Tankian, Grimes, Chantal Claret and…robots. The album drops Oct. 19 and is available for preorder now.
