Live Well's "Classes" video is a bittersweet pop-punk romance—watch

New York pop-punks Live Well have delivered the modern love and romance video the world has desperately needed. With “Classes,” the band—lead vocalist/guitarist Paul Masbad, guitarist/vocalist Max Johl, bassist/vocalist Luis Castro and drummer Neil Stafford—have delivered a cool jam. But even cooler is the video they created to get the song’s message across. Needless to say, we’re stoked to be premiering it on AltPress today.

“‘Classes’ is about those fleeting moments when you’re in college,” Masbad explains. “In terms of relationships, you feel like, ‘This is it. This is the one,’ but in reality, it’s not. You’re 19, and now, years later, you don’t even know that person. The little things seem so big, like spilling my coffee or that person cleaning their glasses. It’s about looking back on those moments and being like, ‘It’s fine. I know you, but I don’t know you.’“

The video was directed by Stephen Emerick and Johl after filtering their ideas alongside Masbad. The three of them chose to emphasize the storyline rather than focus on the band. “We all saw the video working in a similar fashion when brainstorming it individually,” Masbad says. “We wanted to depict the narrative in the song and not showcase the band too much. It was important for me as a queer person of color to depict the video this way because I want it to represent my life, the lives of my friends and how I, as this person, see the world. It’s so great working with Max and Stephen because I can just throw an idea at them, and they find amazing ways to bring it to life.

“We are excited to share this video, which shows an all-too-familiar fleeting love story in a way not typically depicted in our genre,” he adds.

We’re expecting Live Well to do great things. In addition to some fine singles, the band recently recorded their debut album with the assistance of Ace Enders (The Early November) and Man Overboard‘s Nik Bruzzese. Check out “Classes” below, and go see Live Well when they roll into your city this month.
