15 most-streamed Spotify songs that might surprise you

We all know our favorite songs by our top bands, but we aren’t always spot-on when it comes to their most popular ones. The Spotify listeners have spoken, and their answers took us off guard.

Here are the most surprising top-streamed songs on Spotify that we may or may not agree with.

1. Fall Out Boy – “Centuries” (449.6 million) 

Landing in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, Fall Out Boy struck gold with “Centuries,” receiving four platinum honors for the leading single off 2015’s American Beauty/American Psycho. While we agree the song deserves recognition, the surprise came with the relegation of the band’s breakout track, “Sugar, We’re Goin Down,” to the third most-streamed spot on Spotify.

2. Panic! At The Disco – “High Hopes” (511.5 million)

“High Hopes” has been a platinum mega-hit for Panic! At The Disco as of late, having gained major traction since Pray For The Wicked dropped this past summer. The track became the longest-leading No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Pop Songs. It also recently surpassed “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” as both the band’s highest-charting track and their most-watched YouTube video. However, its claim of the band’s top-streamed Spotify track is still shocking given how recent it was released and the longevity of the scene staple that is 2005’s “I Write Sins.”

Showing off last year’s Boom Boom Room (Side B), “You’ll Be Fine” came through as the streaming favorite from Palaye Royale. Even a feature from Kellin Quinn couldn’t rocket “Ma Cherie” to the top, making us believe a new most-streamed song might be crowned following their next album.

4. Set It Off – “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing” (feat. William Beckett) (49.3 million)

Set It Off made waves with their sophomore effort, Duality, which topped off at No. 86 on the Billboard 200. The album was also responsible for the band’s top-streamed Spotify song, “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing,” which nearly doubled second-place “Why Worry.” The album made a splash on Spotify as well, responsible for three of the band’s top 10 songs.

5. Green Day – “Basket Case” (325.2 million)

Yes, “Basket Case” is one of Green Day’s most iconic songs, breaking them into the mainstream along with the rest of Dookie. However, we guessed one of the premier tracks off the mid-2000’s dominating American Idiot would take the streaming throne. Nonetheless, this is a situation where you really can’t go wrong. They’re all classics.

6. Taking Back Sunday – “MakeDamnSure” (58.2 million)

One of the closest races in the list, Taking Back Sunday’s “MakeDamnSure” edged out the No. 1 spot by less than 100,000 streams. “Cute Without The ‘E’ (Cut From The Team)” took a close second, but tallied a respectful amount when considering the mainstream success of “MakeDamnSure,” which cracked Billboard’s Hot 100 shortly after its release.

“Youngblood” spent an impressive 46 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100, making it completely realistic that it would also take the crown for 5 Seconds Of Summer’s top track. Even with the evidence stacked in favor of “Youngblood,” we still can’t believe everyone isn’t still stuck on their self-titled album (“She Looks So Perfect,” specifically).

8. From First To Last – “Make War” (16.4 million)

We’re still awaiting a new From First To Last album, and apparently so is everyone else. One of the band’s last two singles, “Make War,” is a perfect example of that. “Note To Self” was a surprising snub, but even “Emily” beat out our pick for top song.

9. The Used – “The Taste Of Ink” (43.5 million)

“All That I’ve Got” put the Used on the map, especially due to the constant rotation of its music video along with Panic! and Fall Out Boy. Despite these accolades, “The Taste Of Ink” still edged out a victory by over 20 million streams.

10. We The Kings – “Sad Song” (feat. Elena Coats) (126.6 million)

One of the most surprising entries on the list, smash hit “Check Yes, Juliet” isn’t the most-streamed effort by We The Kings. Instead, “Sad Song” takes the cake by a surprisingly large margin of about 50 million streams. Our middle school selves aren’t happy about this one, but the Spotify numbers don’t lie.

11. The All-American Rejects – “Gives You Hell” (182.1 million)

Responsible for some of the most memorable pop-punk tracks of the late 2000s, the All-American Rejects had a plethora of possible options for their top Spotify hit. “Gives You Hell” emerged the victor despite some stiff competition as seen below. The song was also highest placing for the band on the Billboard Hot 100, hitting its apex at No. 4.

12. Four Year Strong – “We All Float Down Here” (11.3 million)

Call us suckers for nostalgia, but we were sure Four Year Strong would get the most love from their debut album, Rise Or Die Trying. Alas, we were incorrect, with “We All Float Down Here” rising to the top by a wide margin. After all, the 2015 self-titled album did hit No. 77 on the Billboard 200.

Getting plenty of pull from featured artists, double platinum-selling “You Make Me Feel…” placed firmly in first. Our heads are filled with fond memories of “Good Girls Go Bad,” which despite going platinum as well for Cobra Starship, settles for second by a solid margin. The band’s scene-heavy collab “Bring It (Snakes On A Plane)” with Gym Class Heroes, the Academy Is… and the Sounds also fell short with only 3.4 million streams.

We know you guessed “Jumper.” Another surprisingly wide race filled with iconic jams, “Semi-Charmed Life” shined through as Third Eye Blind’s top streamer. Honestly, any guess between the ’90s classics would’ve been fair, but going gold was enough to push the song to the top of the heap.

15. Bring Me The Horizon – “Throne” (131.3 million)

Despite another strong showing with amo that lead to a Grammy nomination for “MANTRA,” Bring Me The Horizon may have hit another level with That’s The Spirit. The album went gold, and while many may have expected “Happy Song” to take the top spot, “Throne” still remains their most-streamed track.
