This iconic My Chemical Romance LEGO design could become a reality

UPDATE: April 27, 2021 11:41 AM ET

After launching the My Chemical Romance “Welcome To The Black Parade” LEGO set idea, VNMBricks has reached the 10,000 supporters milestone. The design will officially be reviewed by a LEGO expert to see if the design will become a reality.

VNMBricks may turn out to be the savior of the broken, the beaten and the damned with their recent LEGO set submission. As if My Chemical Romance’s emo anthem “Welcome To The Black Parade” wasn’t iconic enough to be immortalized forever, a fan-made LEGO set depicting the group on the black-clad float has been submitted as a potential design.

According to the LEGO Ideas web page, the journey to becoming a LEGO Fan designer can take years to reach specific milestones and to garner enough support to have a design reviewed by a LEGO expert. Through the submission process, Fan designers are required to submit a well-thought-out LEGO build that will be reviewed by an expert after reaching 10,000 supporters.

“The journey of becoming a LEGO Fan designer is incredibly challenging and requires a unique brick-built concept, solid planning, a boatload of determination, as well as a healthy amount of patience,” the website says. “It can take up to several years and you will have to work hard to build awareness of your project until it gains the necessary 10,000 supporters. But, oh, the fame and fantastic sense of achievement that awaits you if your idea goes all the way!”

Now, the clever VNMBricks has gained massive attention on their build after submitting it to the official LEGO page on April 16, 2021. Only two days after the build was submitted, the design depicting MCR’s Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Mikey Way, Ray Toro and Bob Bryer had already reached its first 100 supporters milestone.

According to VNMBricks design description, this particular build would feature just shy of 600 pieces.

“This model depicts a parade float from the music video of “Welcome to the Black Parade,” in which the band sings the song while becoming a part of the Black Parade. The build contains just under 600 pieces, and measures in at about 9in (length), 5.5in (width), and 4in (height)! It also includes all 5 members of the band at the time; Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Bob Bryar!”

In an update from the creator on April 23, 2021, the design had reached its second milestone after garnering over 1,000 supporters in under a week . Yesterday, April 26, 2021, Iero and Mikey Way both showed their support for the LEGO design and shared the creation on their social media accounts.

Iero shared the design to his Instagram Stories as well as his feed.

“Ok so it has come to my attention that regular people can come up with ideas for @lego sets and upload them onto the @Lego site where they get voted on. If these ideas get enough votes or supporters @lego will try and develop these ideas into actual legit @Lego sets for their toy line. This is at least how it was described to me… anyway, some amazing maniac that goes by the name VNMBricks (sik name, i see what you did there ?) came up with the concept for a Mychem Black Parade float @Lego set and i’m losing my mind at how crazy rad it is! I for one have already gone to the @Lego website and voted for this thing because it would be the greatest experience getting to build this with my son, Miles. If you also think this would be a rad @lego set to own and build with your kids, parents, friends, goldfish, or alone by yourself in the dark then you too can have your voice heard by going and voting for this MCR BP float at the link below (i’m also putting this in my story as a swipe up to make it easier):

Thank you VNMBricks for making this amazing suggestion, i hope we can both build it for real one day. ?”

The younger Way brother also shared his support on his Instagram Stories and voted for the design on the official web page.

As of today, April 27, 2021, the design is less than 1,000 votes away from being reviewed by an expert with more than 777 days to reach the final goal.

Iero has also shared the design yet again on his Twitter account to show his support.

“if we hit the goal and these sets get made for real, i’m camping outside the @LEGO_Group store on release day, buying a dozen, and making a fleet.”

With the dedication of the MCRmy, it seems likely that voting will close today and the design will be sent to review by a LEGO expert. Anyone else planning to stand in line and make a fleet similar to Iero’s? Same.
