‘Peppa Pig’ showing scares kids with horror trailers

An England theater recently made an entire audience of children cry by accidentally previewing two horror films ahead of their showing of the new Peppa Pig movie.

According to the BBC, Ipswich’s Empire Cinema made parents distressed by promoting the forthcoming Ma and Brightburn. The movie theater has since apologized for the mix-up and says they are investigating the cause.

“As soon as the staff on site were made aware of the situation, the program was stopped and trailers were taken off-screen immediately,” a spokesperson for Empire Cinemas says. “We do sincerely apologize for this and for any distress caused and will be reviewing our internal procedures to ascertain how this came to be.”

However, some parents think the theater isn’t taking the matter seriously enough. One parent claims the trailers were in no way appropriate for their young children’s growing imaginations.  

“I tried to cover her eyes during the trailers and told her they were silly films for mummies and daddies, but there were lots of kids crying and she was very confused and started crying too,” Charlie Jones tells BBC of her daughter’s traumatizing experience. “I went mad at [the manager]. It was meant to be a special day for Annie. I don’t think he understands the impact of it.”

While many parents and children were mortified by the experience, the BBC reports that most escorted their children out of the theater until their scheduled movie began.
