Poppy announces new album ‘Flux’ with visual for title track—watch

Poppy has announced Flux, her fourth studio album and the follow-up to her 2020 record, I Disagree.

The announcement comes alongside a psychedelic music video for the record’s title track created by Australian designer and visual artist Pip and Pop. The music video for “Flux” takes place in a candy-colored dream world and was directed by the artist herself.

The single was produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Paramore, Deafheaven, M83). Poppy also worked with the producer on “Her,” the artist’s most recent track prior to “Flux.”

The powerhouse track begins with a series of distorted scratches and clicks. An animated sun pours light over the pastel world as an explosive snare drum sets the scene. Layers of shrieking guitar parts and crunchy basslines drive the song as the artist navigates her way through animated demons and maliciously grinning plants. The song reaches its pinnacle at 3:45 when a breakdown featuring Poppy’s heavy-hitting screams sends the song into a chaotic spiral and she becomes animated herself.

The unstoppable queen of metal has had one hell one of a year. Her new album comes only months after the release of EAT, a special collaboration between Sumerian Records and WWE. In addition to releasing a new song ahead of the forthcoming album, the artist also announced a world tour beginning in Sept. 30 via Instagram.

Poppy “Flux” lyrics:

My body is fluid
’Cause I’ve been through it all
Chewed up and used its
Cut into pieces to feed them all

For your amusement
For your confusion
I guess I’ll do it
’Cause I’m bored
And no attention span is shorter
Than mine or yours

You can’t oppose it
That’s just how it goes yeah
You gotta flux and flow with it
You gotta flux and flow with it

Require no permission
Just ask for forgiveness
There’s no second-guessing
I’m just a possession
For your amusement
