Tattoo artist brings work to life through stop-motion project
There are plenty of tattoos out there featuring beloved cartoon characters, but this Hungarian tattoo artist is taking the relationship between animation and tattooing to a whole new level.
Balazs Bercsenyi is well known in the body-art community for his intricate designs and creative style, but now his latest project, a simple rose tattoo, is getting a lot of attention.

If you met one of the 70 people who participated in “A Life Of A Rose,” you would see a normal-looking rose tattoo. Put together, their ink paints a masterpiece.
The series of tattoos linked together in stop-motion style portrays a rose being grown, picked, exchanged and eventually drooping and dying.
Bercsenyi made a connection between the rose’s life cycle and our own lives, saying he wanted the participants to feel a deep connection to their ink.
“I wanted the story to evolve around a rose because it is such a beautiful symbol and metaphor of love,” Bercsenyi tells BuzzFeed. “It represents the cycle of life—from when the rose sprouts, to how it’s used as a tool to uplift and inject expression for a human being. The rose is a perfect example of how we should live our lives, to bloom and give our gift away.”
Bercsenyi randomly chose 70 participants out of a pool of 600 people from his home country, bringing them together to meet following the completion of their tattoos.
“The project culminated with a gathering where the majority of the group was able to meet each other,” Bercsenyi says. “In that moment, I realized we had created something very special. We created a sense of oneness, and that is the energy we need to spread.”
