Thundercat and Tame Impala tackle doomed romance on new single “No More Lies”

It’s been a long three years since Thundercat released any supremely funky originals, but today the bassist has shared a new single called “No More Lies” that features Tame Impala.

The song is classic Thundercat, full of synths, grooves, and sublime melodies. As the track reaches its end, Thundercat launches into a monologue where he questions if honesty is always best: “I tell you the truth because I care, but I also lie to you because I care.” The single follows his Ryuichi Sakamoto tribute “Thousand Knives,” as well as appearances on Gorillaz’s Cracker Island, JID’s The Forever Story, and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

“I’ve wanted to work with Kevin since the very first Tame Impala album,” he shares in a press statement. “I feel that I knew that us working together would be special. I’ve been excited about this song for a long time and hope to create more with Kevin in the future.”

Along with the new single, Thundercat will head out on the road next month to support Red Hot Chili Peppers on select dates. He’ll then make stops in Australia, Asia, and Europe later this summer. You can grab tickets here.
